Important announcement

Hi all,

There were a lot of students who missed last week's chem O training due to IHC. Be advised that material covered last week was a bit more advanced and is quite important. Please download the presentation slides titled "Carbonyl Compound Extended learning" from Raffles connect.

Its also important you learn the approach to writing mechanisms, so make use of the imine and enamine formation mechanisms, as well as ester formation/hydrolysis mechanism for good practice.

By the way, ester formation (and reactions involving carboxylic acid derivatives) mostly involve nucleophilic acyl substitution.

The section on enolates is particularly important.

Since I taught quite a bit more material than just what is in the presentation slides, I strongly advise you to read up on those topics covered.
